Kano residents condemn Saturday’s political clash

Some residents and elders in Kano have condemned the political clash that occurred during the durbah in Kano on Saturday.

Some of the residents near the Emir’s Palace who witnessed the clash described it as “very bloody’’.

Malam Sammani Abubakar told our Correspondent that the situation was worrisome as Kano was considered to have abandoned political mayhem caused by thugs..

He explained that the lack of enough security personnel at the scene made the situation worse.

Malam Usman Sani, another resident who witnessed the situation, said some of those attacked had to shield themselves in people’s houses.

He decried the clash at the time of festivity, saying that it had affected ordinary people that were not politicians.

Malama Hadiza Abdulkarim, a housewife, said her son was badly injured at the scene of the clash.

According to her, “My son isn’t a politician but was there to watch the durbah yet he was trying to run away when the clash began and he was hit with a matchet.”

She appealed to authorities to investigate the matter and deal with whoever was involved.

NAN reports that a political clash erupted in Kano on Saturday during the durbah celebration of eid el Kabir.

Police have confirmed the incidence saying that security have been tightened to allow people have a peaceful celebration for the remaining days of the eid.

Meanwhile, Kano state Police Command has tightened security as durbah continues following political clashes on Saturday evening in Kano.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Magaji Majiya, confirmed to NAN on Sunday that Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya sects of the APC clashed on Saturday while at the durbah celebration.

Majiya revealed that the Police had not made any arrest in regards to the clash, but had has launched an investigation on the matter.

The Command has tightened security across the metropolis to ensure a hitch free celebration and that people were safe.

The political clash occurred in Kano on Saturday during the Hanan daushe durbah in Kano.

The former Secretary to the state government Alhaji Rabiu Sulaiman and some ex-commissioners were injured in the clash.
